What to expect in Therapy

Starting therapy is a powerful step toward feeling more grounded, confident, and emotionally supported. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, stress, trauma, relationship challenges, or simply feeling overwhelmed, therapy gives you a safe space to understand what’s happening beneath the surface and learn healthier ways to cope.
I provide therapy for adults in Gainesville and throughout Florida, with a warm, collaborative approach that helps you feel seen, supported, and understood.
How Therapy helps?
- People begin therapy for many reasons including anxiety, burnout, trauma, life transitions, relationship stress, or wanting to feel more like themselves again. Therapy can help you:
- manage anxiety, overwhelm, and racing thoughts
- understand and regulate difficult emotions
- build healthier coping skills
- improve communication and boundaries
- strengthen self‑esteem and self‑worth
- navigate relationships with more clarity
- break old patterns and create new ones
- feel more grounded and connected to yourself
Therapy is not about fixing you. It is about helping you heal, grow, and move through life with more confidence and emotional stability.
Your first therapy session
Your first therapy session has two main goals:
1. Understanding Your Circumstances
We will explore what brought you to therapy, what you have been carrying, and what you want to change. I will ask questions to get a clear picture of your history, patterns, strengths, and current challenges. Together, we will begin shaping a treatment plan that fits your life and feels manageable.
You may also receive small practices or reflections to try between sessions. These are gentle tools to support your progress.
2. Building a Supportive Relationship
Therapy works best when you feel safe, understood, and respected. Our first session is a two‑way conversation. You are getting to know me just as much as I am getting to know you. You are welcome to ask questions, share concerns, or talk about what you need to feel comfortable.
You can expect:
- compassion, respect, and honesty

- a calm, confidential, judgment‑free space
- someone who listens deeply and validates your experience
- evidence‑based strategies tailored to your needs
- a collaborative approach where we work as a team
The quality of our relationship is one of the strongest predictors of positive outcomes in therapy. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe enough to be real and supported enough to grow.
I look forward to getting to know you and helping you reach your therapy goals.
Is Therapy Confidential?
Yes. Everything you share in therapy is confidential and protected by law. Information can only be released with your written permission.
There are a few legal exceptions where therapists must break confidentiality to keep people safe. These include:
- suspected abuse of a child, elder, or vulnerable adult
- credible threats of harm to another person
- immediate risk of self‑harm where safety cannot be maintained
If any of these situations arise, we will talk through it together.
A Warm Welcome
Beginning therapy is a meaningful step toward healing and growth. I look forward to getting to know you, understanding your story, and supporting you as you move toward a more grounded, confident, and fulfilling life.
