Trauma Therapy in Gainesville, Jacksonville, and Throughout Florida
Healing at a pace that feels steady and supportive
Trauma can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself, unsure of your reactions, or stuck in patterns that no longer make sense. You may notice moments when your body reacts before your mind catches up, or times when you shut down, pull away, or feel overwhelmed without knowing why. Even when life looks stable on the outside, something inside may still feel unsettled.
You are not broken. You adapted to experiences that were too much, too fast, or too long. Therapy can help you understand those patterns with clarity and compassion.
I support adults in Gainesville, Jacksonville, and across Florida who want to make sense of their internal world, reconnect with themselves, and move toward a life that feels more grounded and intentional.
Understanding Trauma Responses
Trauma is not defined by the event itself. It is defined by the impact it had on your nervous system, your sense of safety, and the way you learned to cope. You may notice:
- shutting down or going numb
- feeling on edge or easily startled
- difficulty trusting yourself or others
- emotional overwhelm
- trouble relaxing or feeling present
- avoiding certain situations, conversations, or emotions
- feeling disconnected from your body or your needs
- repeating patterns you do not fully understand
These responses are not flaws. They are learned forms of protection that made sense at the time.
Therapy gives you space to understand them without judgment.
If you notice your body staying on alert even when things feel calm, you might relate to my post on Why It’s So Hard to Slow Down (Even When You Want To).
What We Explore Together
My approach is insight oriented and grounded in ACT and CBT principles. We explore the patterns that developed in response to overwhelming experiences and the ways those patterns continue to show up today. Together, we work on:
- understanding your internal reactions with more clarity
- noticing avoidance patterns that keep you stuck
- learning how to stay present with emotions in a safe, manageable way
- reconnecting with your values and sense of identity
- building emotional flexibility and self compassion
- creating space between what you feel and how you respond
- developing a steadier relationship with your body and nervous system
You do not have to revisit every detail of your past. Healing is not about reliving the story. It is about understanding how the past shows up now and learning new ways to respond.
My Approach to Trauma Therapy
Sessions are calm, steady, and paced to your comfort. You get space to talk, reflect, and notice what is happening inside you without pressure. We move slowly and intentionally, focusing on safety, clarity, and connection.
My role is not to push you into places you are not ready to go. It is to help you understand your experience, build internal resources, and create room for healing in a way that feels grounded and sustainable.
My background as a Black therapist gives me a meaningful lens on how culture, identity, and lived experience shape the ways people learn to cope, protect themselves, or carry stress. If those experiences are part of your story, we can explore them openly. If not, we focus on the patterns that feel most present in your life.
Therapy with me is:
- insight oriented
- culturally responsive
- steady and supportive
- focused on patterns, meaning, and flexibility
- paced to your comfort
You get space to breathe, reconnect, and move toward what feels grounding.
Moving Forward
Trauma can shape how you see yourself and the world, but it does not have to define your future. With the right support, you can feel more present, more connected, and more in control of your inner world.
If you are ready to begin, I would be honored to support you. You can schedule a session or reach out with any questions.
